… Soloist; maestro; & NAO musicians undeniably aced the piece.

…A mark of Trudel’s style is his always smooth transition between themes. The adagio movement (Brahms second symphony) offered numerous opportunities to witness this manifestation of his conducting form. The man influences rather than exhorts full measure from his musicians, reflecting a ‘teamwork’ ethic that gleans a positive result.

…The orchestra’s playing was clean, spare, and together, right from the start. The litheness of the string section was a pleasure to hear, and it gave more than a suggestion of the rapport between the musicians and the conductor….

Orchestra London Names Award-­Winning Alain Trudel As Music Director

Trudel one of the most sought after conductors in Canada

LONDON, ON, April 6, 2011 – Orchestra London today announced that it has named internationally renowned Canadian Alain Trudel as its new music director.

“The board is excited to welcome Alain Trudel, one of the most sought after conductors in Canada, to London as our new music director,” said Ailene Wittstein, President of the Orchestra London Board of Directors. “Trudel is well known to Orchestra London audiences, having made popular guest appearances over the past several years. His appointment is an important step in building a strong and sustainable future for Orchestra London. With Alain’s energy, enthusiasm and desire to engage our cultural communities and support the next generation through education and mentoring programs, the orchestra will play a key role in the economic value of the region.”

Initially known to the public as a trombone soloist, Trudel has been a guest soloist with leading orchestras around the world and is the recipient of many Canadian and international awards. Trudel also is the music director at l’Orchestre Symphonique de Laval, artistic director and principal conductor at the National Broadcast Orchestra, as well as principal guest conductor of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra. Highly committed to the new generation of musicians, Trudel is the conductor of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra and has been regularly invited to conduct the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. Trudel also has conducted orchestras in the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Hong Kong and in Latin America.

“It’s a tremendous honour to accept this position,” said Trudel, who was warmly greeted by Orchestra London musicians when they learned the news. “One of my main goals is for music to be a leading positive force within our community. In the coming months, look for Orchestra London’s musicians to be present in many different ways around the London area, sharing not only their talent, but inspiring you.
