Biography 

Music director of Orchestra London Canada, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Laval, the National Broadcast Orchestra, as well as Principal Guest Conductor of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Alain Trudel is one of the most sought after conductor on the Canadian Scene.

A frequent guest with the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra Trudel made his debut with l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the Gävle Symphony Orchestra (Sweden), and with the Saint-Petersburg Cappella Symphony Orchestra during the 2010-2011 season.

Trudel made his Opera de Montréal debut in 2009, Conducting Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, as well as the 30th anniversary gala, which was released as a live CD and nominated at L’ADISQ. In 2010 he also made his debut at l’Opéra de Quebec conducting their Gala and the production of Die Fledermaus.

Highly committed to the new generation of musicians, Trudel is very proud to be the conductor of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, and has been regularly invited to conduct the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. Their recording of Mahler’s 6th Symphony and Le sacre du prinptemps was nominated as “Best Orchestral Album of the Year” at the 2010 Juno Awards.

Beyond the borders of Canada, Trudel has conducted orchestras in the UK, the USA, Sweden, Russia, Japan, Hong-Kong and in Latin America. Highly appreciated for his collaborative spirit, he has worked
with many world famous artists, among them Ben Heppner, Anton Kuerti, Measha Brueggergosman, Pinchas Zukermann and Isabel Bayrakdarian.

First known to the public as a trombone soloist, Alain Trudel made his solo debut at the age of 18, with Charles Dutoit with l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal. He has been guest soloist with leading orchestras on five continents, and was the first Canadian to be a Yamaha international artist.
Alain is very happy to come back to his roots, as he will be Hannaford Street Silver Band’s principal guest conductor at the start of the 2010-2011season.

Alain Trudel is the recipient of numerous Awards, among them the Virginia Parker, Le grand prix du disque Président de la République de l’Académie Charles Cros (France), and more recently the Heinz Unger Prize for conducting. He has also been named an Ambassador of Canadian Music by the CMC.

Alain Trudel est fréquemment invité par l’orchestre du centre national des arts et par le Toronto Symphony Orchestra, et en 2010-2011 fit ses débuts aux pupitres de l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, l’Orchestre symphonique de Gävle, en Suède et l’Orchestre symphonique de la Capella de Saint-Pétersbourg. 

M. Trudel a fait ses débuts à l’Opéra de Montréal en 2009 dans Die Zauberflöte de Mozart, ainsi que lors du concert gala du 30e anniversaire, immortalisé lors d’un enregistrement en direct et qui fut en nomination lors du gala de L’ADISQ. Il fit aussi ses débuts à l’opéra de Québec en 2010 lors de leur Gala et de la production de Die Fledermaus. 

Très attentif à la nouvelle génération de musiciens et musiciennes, Alain Trudel très fier d’être est le chef d’orchestre du Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra. Il est aussi régulièrement invité par l’orchestre national des jeunes du Canada. Leur enregistrement de la Symphonie no 6 de Mahler et du Sacre du printemps de Stravinski a été mis en nomination dans la catégorie « Album orchestral de l’année » aux Prix Juno 2010. 

À l’extérieur du Canada, Alain Trudel a dirigé des orchestres au Royaume-Uni, aux États-Unis, en Suède, En Russie, au Japon, à Hong Kong et en Amérique du Sud. Doté d’un esprit collaboratif très prisé par ses collègues, il a travaillé auprès de plusieurs artistes renommés, notamment Ben Heppner, Anton Kuerti, Measha Brueggergosman, Pinchas Zukermann, Alain Lefèvre, Marc Hervieux et Isabel Bayrakdarian. 

D’abord révélé au public en tant que tromboniste soliste, Alain Trudel a fait ses débuts à dix-huit ans avec Charles Dutoit et l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. Il a été l’invité de principales formations orchestrales sur cinq continents. Il est le premier Canadien à devenir un artiste international Yamaha.

Alain est très fier de revenir a ses sources en acceptant le poste de premier chef invité du Hannaford Street Silver Band a partir de la saison2010-2011. 

Alain Trudel a reçu de nombreuses distinctions, dont le Prix Virginia-Parker, le Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles-Cros (France), le Prix Heinz-Unger pour la direction d’orchestre. Il a en outre été nommé ambassadeur de la musique canadienne par le CMC.
